ARTIST: Aline Frazão
COUNTRY: Angola
GENRE: Bossa-Nova, Morna, Semba, African Roots, Jazz, World Music

Aline Frazão is one of the most interesting artists of Angola’s new generation of musicians, mixing her African roots with influences from Bossa Nova to Jazz. With only 23 years old, this singer and songwriter from Luanda is going to record her first album this year.

Aline was born and raised in Luanda where she started singing at the age of nine. But it was in Madrid, in 2010, where she started performing frequently in bars and in some of the mythical showrooms of the city, singing along with the guitar her own songs and a repertoire from Angola, Brazil and Cape-Verde.

In November 2010, Aline participated in “Festival Musidanças” in Lisbon and after that she was invited for the 8th edition of the International Festival of Lusofonia “Cantos na Maré”, in Galicia. There, she shared the stage with Lenine (Brazil), Uxia (Galicia, Spain), Guadi Galego (Galicia, Spain), and António Zambujo (Portugal).

Aline is also the vocalist and main songwriter of the “A minha embala” project, which intents to make a musical link between Galicia and the other countries where Portuguese is spoken, specially Angola. The album “A minha embala” was released in 2011 and it’s available for free download on the internet.

Aline Frazão is now living in Santiago de Compostela, Galicia/Spain, where she’s getting ready to record her first album of originals accompanied by Cuban Jose Manuel Díaz (double-bass) and Galician Carlos Freire (drums/percussion).

“Though quite young, Aline already has all that makes a great singer: an extraordinaire voice, solid stage presence and a very unique universe, on which flows the best and most sophisticated of Angolan urban popular music.” (José Eduardo Agualusa, Angolan writer)
